The joy of reading!
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund we have recently been able to restart our work to encourage the joy of reading and boost literacy skills in children and adults.
Children from KFCAs school holiday play scheme picking their book of the week (Summer 2023)
Beginning in October 2023, this work will initially focus on:
relaunching our children’s library which was originally funded by Steve Morgan Foundation in 2022 and developing a recommended reading list across the year
supporting parents, grandparents & other carers of children to gain confidence to read out loud to their little ones and encourage people to volunteer to read to the children at our after school club & school holiday play scheme.
delivering adults shared reading sessions on our Winter warmth days and a new book club staring in early 2024
work with local primary schools to enable us to reach more families and engage the wider community in our joy of reading program and activities in our library
partnership working with The Reader organisation in Calderstones park, to enable us to access support for staff and volunteers involved in delivering this program, and also a wonderful world of events and activities for families and individuals
