  • Sue Robinson - Centre Coordinator

    Sue is one of the original co-founders of KFCA from the late ‘80s when a group of Mums got together in Rathbone school. She leads the day to day running of the community centre, and drives service delivery for the charity. Sue is KFCA’s designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and is qualified youth worker.

    Sue has lived in Kensington all her life and is well known and respected community leader.

    She is a vocal campaigner on neighbourhood inequality and food insecurity at a City, Regional and National level. She is Deputy Chair of Governors at Sacred Heart RC Primary School and works alongside Church Action on Poverty and Feeding Liverpool to influence urgent change on behalf of ordinary people.

    In her spare time she enjoys time with family & friends, walking her dog and going to the theatre. Sue said “no two days are the same at KFCA, we support our community with all kinds of challenges which is extremely rewarding.”

  • Myra Gilbertson – Youth and Community Worker

    Myra is a qualified youth worker, lives locally in Kensington and has been with KFCA for over 20 years. Her family have roots in the area going back many decades.

    She supports KFCA’s Centre Co-ordinator and enjoys delivering kid’s activities on Tuesday & Thursday evening our school holiday club (HAF).

    Myra also leads on coordinating KFCA’s weekly food pantry and is passionate about alleviating food poverty and supporting families & young people to access local opportunities.

    Our fun weekly cook-alongs are lead by Myra, where she shares fantastic tips on how to make the weekly budget go further. and create healthy tasty meals.

    Recently Myra has also learnt to play & leads our Boccia sessions at the community centre. She has trained to deliver chair-based exercises sessions for our older members which will be starting again Autumn 2025

    In her spare time time, Myra he is an avid DIY’er and enjoys all kinds of cookery. She is also a greater singer and always has the radio on in the centre.

  • Helen Ball – Business Development Manager

    Helen’s background is over 30 years in social housing & neighbourhood regeneration. She joined KFCA in January 2022 to work on bringing in new funding for the organisation through bid writing & grants so it can be sustainable and grow.

    Helen lived in Kenny in the late 80s / early 90s & her son was born here.

    She also supports our Trustees to ensures good governance and is the finance coordinator for the charity, she does the charity’s social media & website, evaluation, and helps develop new services & activities that the community want. She also leads on new opportunities & and partnerships for KFCA.

    Helen is keen food grower & beekeeper, and encourages other people to grow all types fruit & veg in our community allotment at the centre.

    She said “I am made up to be working in Kensington and hopefully making a positive difference to the neighbourhood where I got my first house. My family have long roots in the area so it means a lot to me to be here at KFCA.”

  • Ged Rush - Caretaker

    Ged joined us in February 2024 as our new caretaker.

    He looks after all aspects of centre security, building maintenance and supports the team with pantry stock deliveries.

    Ged is a skilled joiner with a local joinery business, and is experienced in other trades so is a great asset to our team moving forward.

    Ged and his family have been coming to the club for over 50 years. He captains the local darts team who recently won the South Liverpool darts league.

  • Val Tierney - Admin Support Officer

    Val joined the team at Kenny Fields Community Centre in February 2024 as the new Admin Support Officer.

    She has a long history working in admin, working in schools, private clinics, and for the NHS in medical centres and hospitals and running her own business in Spain.

    Val and her family have lived in the area for over 50 years and her Mother in Law is a regular at the community centre.

    Val said “I’m thrilled to be working in Kenny Fields community centre and supporting our local community. I have learnt lots about community work since joining KFCA and it’s a really rewarding role.”

  • Rose Garrett - Community Projects Coordinator

    Rose is our newest member of staff joining us in 2024 as our new Community Projects Coordinator. She runs our children’s library and organises lots of exciting new community activities & services.

    Rose has worked in the Early Years sector, but her specialty is Community Drama and Applied Theatre after studying at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). She is passionate about storytelling and using the arts to connect people.

    After Uni Rose decided to stay in Liverpool, drawn in by the culture, arts and music scene Liverpool has to offer. She lives in Old Swan with her partner who is a born & bred Scouser.

  • Mark Harrison

    Mark is a local businessman & runs the social club side of the community centre on behalf of the charity KFCA.

    He was born & grew up in Kenny Fields, went to Sacred Heart school and used the centre as a teenager. Mark and his family are well known & respected in the local community.

    The social club is the place where all of Kenny Fields important family occasions and life milestones are celebrated, and Mark & Leah and their team make sure each one is really special.

    Make is always ready to help to anyone in need in Kenny and often does our pantry deliveries to housebound & vulnerable neighbours.

    Mark also runs Kenny Fields FC and is passionate about men’s mental health, wellbeing & fitness.

  • Volunteers

    The Charity has lots of fantastic volunteers, without whom we could not do the work we do every day.

    Our volunteers give their time & expertise across a number of areas of the business including pantry, lunch club, kids activities, cooking classes, help to get online sessions and in the allotment.

    There are several articles in the news section all about the wonderful contribution they make to community centre life and our neighbourhood.

Our Trustees

  • Paul Nicholson - Chair of Trustees

    Paul is one of original co-founders of KFCA, having volunteered with the organisation since it’s inception in the 1990’s. He has lived in Kenny Fields for over seventy years, and has the trust and ear of the local community.

    Paul was a shop steward so is highly skilled at community organising. He has an NVQ Level 2 in Community Development and along with twenty other local people he completed national Community Organisers training in 2021.

    Paul is passionate about championing the voice of people in our neighbourhood and making sure that the social and economic success of the City trickles down into Kenny Fields as much as possible.

  • Lisa Ryan - Deputy Chairperson

    Lisa has lived close to the centre in Kenny Fields for almost 25 years. Her daughter has attended local schools from nursery to year 11 and they’ve both accessed lots of services available at the Community Centre so really understand what KFCA is all about.

    Lisa works as a trade union official with responsibilities for equality and diversity; which is something she is very passionate about and she often brings this experience with her into her role at KFCA making sure its services are inclusive and appealing to the many diverse community groups we have in the area.

  • Neil Kelly - Treasurer

    Neil is an international tax expert and Head of Tax at Radius Payment Solutions, Europe's leading independent service provider to the fleet and logistics market with a turnover of £2.6bn.

    As a child Neil lived locally and attended SFX College. He has a first class honours degree from Swansea University. He previously worked at the HMRC as a Tax inspector.

    Neil also chairs the Board’s finance sub-committee.

  • Sarah Duggan

    Sarah is an early years professional and has lived in the area all her life. She used the centre as a child & her daughter has also been a regular at our kids club prior to going to University in the City. Sarah’s family have roots in the neighbourhood spanning four generations.

    Sarah volunteers with KFCA during school holidays as sessional youth worker and brings a wealth of skills & expertise from her work with children to our HAF provision and other children & young people’s activities.

    She connects with local with families who use the centre and ensures their voice is heard in all that we do, which is so important to KFCA’s approach to being community-led.

  • Lee Sutcliffe

    Lee is the bar manager at KFCAs function suite, where all of life’s milestone are celebrated. He lives over the road from the centre and keeps a close eye on the premises and grounds when the centre is not in use.

    Lee brings experience of living in the local neighbourhood and promotes the voice of the people who use the facilities.

    He is passionate about ensuring KFCA is community-led and is a daily presence at the centre.

  • Peter Reed

    Peter was born in Kensington Fields, with the family home still in Jubilee Drive. He was head boy of Our Lady of Fatima High School and attended the local youth clubs in the area.

    Peter went on to study, work and teach in local universities (Liverpool John Moores University, Edge Hill University, and the University of Liverpool) before joining the private sector, leading product departments for global education companies.

    Peter is now the Managing Director of ‘Interactive Pro’ a company partnering with universities to support them to develop, launch and deliver online degrees to a global audience. His IT, technology and further education sector experience are extremely valuable to KFCA.

    Peter also chairs the Board’s IT sub-committee.

  • Veronica Crone

    Ronnie is passionate about services for older people, she has volunteered with KFCA for over 15 years and helps organise the weekly older people’s lunch club & bingo.

    She has also helped us develop our new regular ‘Warm Welcome’ days which are supporting local people to combat rising energy bills, help them stay connected to friends and reduce social isolation during the cost of living crisis.

    Ronnie works hard to make sure that the voices of the older community are heard and shape the services that are delivered from the community centre.

  • Frank Rogers CBE

    Former Chief Executive of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Merseytravel (retired September 2021) Frank began in 2023 by acting as a co-opted voluntary advisor to KFCA Board of Trustees. He was appointed as a full Trustee in early 2024..

    Frank is a Chartered Civil Engineer who grew up in the Kensington area (his family home was less than 100 metres away from the community centre) and his parents & family were members and regular users of the centre for many years.

    Frank was awarded his CBE in the 2022 New Years Honours List for Services to Leading Local Government Reform in the Liverpool City Region.

    Frank also chairs the Board’s risk & governance sub-committee.

  • David Melia

    David is Chief Nursing Officer at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, joining in 2022. Whilst he is first and foremost a nurse, his career over the past 20 years has also given him experience in governance, human resources, professional standards, risk and safety, quality improvement , engagement, stakeholder feedback and monitoring experience, working with regulators and financial management.

    David says “Each time I have had contact with KFCA, I am overwhelmed by the drive and determination that is shown there for the support and improvement of the local community. I have witnessed that this is done with kindness and compassion.”

    “I recognise that the role of Trustee is there to be a ‘critical friend’ as well as an ally and supporter and I hope that my professional background of being a nurse as well as a senior NHS director will be helpful to the charity.”
