Launch of Kensington Fields Community Land Trust (KFCLT)

Kensington Fields Community Land Trust (KFCLT) is a newly established organisation, formed by residents in the Kensington Fields area of Liverpool in March 2022.

It was officially launched with a big Spring community clean-up day, bringing local people together to talk about the needs and aspirations of the community and how we could move forward together. Checkout the photos on social media – a great day was had by all, achieveing the much needed & long over due clearance of Renfrew St community garden.

From discussion on that day, three main priorities have been set out -

  • The development and management of affordable housing within the Kensington Fields ‘Victorian Quarter’ which meets the current and future needs of the community

  • The reinvigoration of Kensington – our local high street – particularly at the end nearest to Low Hill, creating opportunities for new shops and businesses that the community need and want, and also supporting local people with new entrepreneurial ideas

  • Bringing back into use pockets of waste land – perhaps through new small shared gardens, play areas, allotments, and green spaces where people can meet and relax

There are many CLTs all around the UK, where communities are taking back local control of housing, land, the high street and other neighbourhood assets & amenities. You may have heard of other CLTs in Liverpool, liked Homebaked CLT and Granby Four Streets CLT.  KFCLT are members of the national CLT network.  You can find out more about what a CLT is and what others are doing HERE

KFCLT has a small Board of Directors, who meet regularly as the KFCLT steering group.    They want more people to join the steering group.  Have you got a few hours a month to spare to help move along the ideas and plan, and encourage more people to join the movement?

They are also looking for local people who have got particular skills that they are willing to share for the benefit of KFCLT and the Kenny Fields neighbourhood, maybe you are a musician, photographer, food enthusiast, good at organising events, do different kinds of youth work, have expertise in housing & the environment, are great at running social media, enjoy mobilising people into community action …… or do other things that will help in achieving the mission.

Finally, each CLT has a membership of wider people who want to join together and see positive changes happen.   KFCLT want everyone who lives in, works in or visits Kenny Fields to become a member of KFCLT.    Please get in touch via the social media links below and a membership form can be dropped or posted out to you – membership costs £1 (an online version of the form is coming soon).  KFCLT members will come together at different points throughout the year to feedback on ideas & progress, and help spread the word around the neighbourhood. Come and join in!

Follow KFCLT on Twitter and Instagram and look out for a new website coming soon at kennyfieldsclt.co.uk (link will go live soon).

KFCLT is a separate organisation from KFCA, but KFCA supports the development of KFCLT through provison of meeting & event space, volunteer support, expertise and other assistance.
